The annulment of articles of the criminal code for Malicious blasphemy and Insulting of Religions, offend and poses an immediate threat to the social cohesion and the peaceful coexistence of different religious assumptions, Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus states in a message.
As he characteristically mentions, the Criminal Code to date does not punish the denial or criticism of the religious event, but the public malicious blasphemy, which causes the wrath of the faithful of the religion being defamed.
He points out that with the provisions, we do not protect God, but the legitimate good of social cohesion and the democratic stability of the country.
The damaging consequence of blasphemy and defamation is ad hoc to jeopardize the preservation of religious peace and social cohesion, as well as the prevention of the mischievous religious vigilantism.
The abolition of these articles with this legal causa demonstrates SYRIZA government’s obsession to demolish our legal culture, but it also confirms the view that it is inseparably linked to corrupters that seek social disintegration and the deconstruction of the social fabric.
I appeal to the sensible people of the government’s majority to assume responsibility and even in the last moment to vote against the draft law entitled “Sanction of the Criminal Code”, otherwise I hope that the future Parliament will cure this obvious crime.
